A Therapist Who Understands Disability, Chronic Illness, Relationships, and Intimacy

-Roger Rabbit, Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Meet Samantha Slawson

Rare disease advocate and therapist

I was born with a rare genetic disorder called Mucopolysaccharidosis Type 1 Hurlers-Scheie (I know that it sounds quite atrocious). For better or worse, this disorder has completely shaped my life.

My mama always said, “Find what you love and make a career out of it.” I don’t think talking about relationships all day is quite what she had intended. But, I adore, love. I enjoy in-depth discussions about relationships, and enjoy getting to know people for who they are. I love to learn and unlearn. I love exploring the taboo or kinky, or nontraditional. I realized this meant I should probably become a therapist, so why not choose a focus that I never get tired of.

After a long academic journey derailed by surgery and clinical trials, I graduated from the University of Colorado- Denver with both my Bachelor’s in Psychology and my Master’s in Counseling with an emphasis on Couples and Families. I focus on the intersections of disability, neurodiversity, intimacy, and systemic medical trauma.

Want to know more about my therapy practice?

I currently see clients through Legacy Trails Therapy both in Denver, Colorado and via Telehealth (must be located in Colorado).

Whimsy Embracer

Nothing gets me up out of bed more than whimsy. I embrace all forms of whimsy whether that means dressing up, planning an event, or gamifying my day to day to make it more enjoyable.
